3rd Taste South East Cornwall Festival from 10th Nov - 10th Dec 2007
01/10/2007
Taste South East Cornwall is centred around the picturesque fishing ports of Looe and Polperro, whose reputation for local food and fine dining has exploded onto the Cornish gastro-map since Taste was first staged in 2005.

Looe Quayside ‘Grazing’ launches Taste SE Cornwall Food Festival.
Restaurants and food and drink producers of South East Cornwall invite you to sample the best of local produce AND save food miles. The Looe fish market is the venue for another ever-popular Grazing on the Quay on Saturday 10th November from 11am – 3pm. The tasting marks the launch of a month long gastro-extravaganza that is the Taste South East Cornwall Festival.
The grazing is just one of a number of events that aim to raise the profile of fine dining in Looe & Polperro and encourage people to buy locally produced food and drink.
Nick Love from Trawlers on the Quay Restaurant said, “This latest Grazing on the Quay is just one of an exciting programme of foodie events.” “From a Just Desserts coffee morning with sweet delights and breads and a take away Bread Deli Counter to Beer and Banger or Cider and Paté evenings at the Courtyard Café at the Purely Cornish Farmshop St Martin-by-Looe.”
Participating restaurants include the Old Sail Loft Restaurant who want to create a truly Old Cornish atmosphere with a 7 course taster menu, with traditional dishes being given a thoroughly modern twist, accompanied by music by Cornish group Caracana. The Bywater Restaurant invite you to join them in a Mushroom Walk and Talk through Kilminorth Woods with The National Trust's Matt Lewis - a chance to explore our local woods and discover the abundant varieties of fungus living there.
Couch's Great House Restaurant Polperro, is offering a Food of the Modern World - Thanksgiving menu devised between local chefs Richard McGeown and Nick Barclay. Chocoholics are invited to Comwall's Chocolate Oasis with the Chocolate Dream Company in Polperro for an evening of chocolate heaven and delicious punch from their 'Touch of Class' beverage fountain.
Each night during Festival Month, participating restaurants including Barclay House, will feature a special 3 course menu showcasing their signature Cornish Distinctiveness menu and don't forget to visit participating suppliers such as The Chocolate Dream Company, Purely Cornish, Treleavens Ice Cream and Blue Sail Fish Merchants.
East Looe fish market is the ideal location to savour the flavour of Looe day caught fish with a hearty bouillabaisse, taster size crab salad or leek and potato soup - just the dishes to warm you on a winters day. Why not tickle your taste buds with seafood pasties and saffron mayo, and a Pumpkin soup with crab and chili fritters to follow.
If Looe’s catch of the day is not your titbit, then perhaps you will smack your lips and be tempted with the sweet sensation of scrummy chocolates, honeycomb or the luscious Cornish Lust liqueur. Just in case it’s a bit chilly, warm the cockles of your heart with some hot mulled cider or Wassail.
Taste and smell are not the only senses to be tempted. In the drive to promote all things Cornish, the Fish Market will resound to the strains of the fiery fiddle and hammered dulcimer of Cornish musical duo Leski, bringing music & song from the heart of Cornwall.
While you are in Looe, why not pop into the Guildhall for THE BOOK of LOOE - Tourism, Trawlers & Trade book launch. THE BOOK of LOOE, written by Mark Camp, Blue Badge Guide, Looe Tourist Information Centre and Barbara Birchwood Harper from Looe Museum is to be published November 10th 2007 by Halsgrove. The authors will be present to answer questions and sign copies of their book at the Book
Tastings at £2 per portion won’t stretch your wallet, but may stretch your waistband! Use of the fish market by kind permission of Looe Harbour Commissioners.
